Syrups are a solution of water and sugar, they are often used for poached fruits, pancakes, waffles, sorbets and other dessert.
Syrups are usually derived from fruit, grains and tree or plant saps, and are intensely sweet, sticky liquids that vary in colour from pale yellow to amber, brown and black.
Syrups are usually used as sweetener in cakes, biscuits, desserts and confectionery; they may replace sugar, or combined with it.
The various types include golden syrup, maple syrup, date (palm), maple, corn, cane, rice, wheat, fruit syrup, treacle, malt extract, molasses, agave nectar.
