The coffee tree is named after the Ethiopian province of Kaff.
It was imported to Europe by the Arabs to the sec. XVI; the Europeans then spread to Asia and South America.
It is a shrub up to 7-8m (but in cultivation it is kept at a height of no more than 2-2,5m to facilitate harvesting of the fruit).
The fruits, collected in full maturation, are dried in air or ferment, to release the seeds from the pulp.
The seeds are what we refer to as beans.
The roasted seeds get the typical aroma and are used to prepare a beverage rich in carbohydrates, protein, and caffeine, which exerts a stimulating and exciting on the heart and nervous system.
There are two main types of coffee bean, Robusta and Arabica.
Arabica has a lower content of caffeine and it is able to give more aromatic coffee, less bitter and less astringent than the Robusta variety. Among those strong, the species Puerto Rico, Jamaica and Costa Rica.

Coffee beans: the beans are usually sold roasted to be then usually ground to produce the drink of coffee, but you could find it also green beans for roasting at home.
Ground coffee: Made from coffee beans, the grinds is related to ways to serve coffee, espresso (very fine), cafetiére (medium) and filter (fine-medium).
Instant Coffee: also called "soluble coffee" as it dissolves easily in boiling water and it's ready to drink.
